God welcomed Dorothy Boyd Prest into heaven on 25 October 2016 following a long life of 96 years.
She was born in Manchester, Massachusetts on July 25, 1920, the oldest of John and Gertrude Prest's three daughters. She is preceded in death by her two sisters, Ruth and Gertrude and remained single. Dorothy had a very impressive education having first graduated from Story High School in Manchester, Massachusetts. She then went on to earn her BS degree at Massachusetts State College, an MA degree in Micro Biology and completed her education with a PHD in Philosophy at the University of Arizona. She was a member of KAPPA ALPHA THETA Fraternity and enjoyed nineteen years as Professor Emeritus at Keuka College located in Keuka Park, New York and 10 years at Tucson Medical Center (TMC) as a Medical Technologist. Dorothy was very fond of Dr. Schloss, Chief of Pathology at Tucson Medical Center, who she credits for giving her the opportunity to work on her doctorate at the U of A. Upon retirement from TMC, she became a selfless volunteer at the Tucson Medical Center, the El Dorado Hospital and the Southern Arizona VA Hospital in Tucson. It was during her volunteer work that she met Augustine D Smithson Semple (affectionately known as Peggy) who was widowed. The two became best friends and enjoyed cross-stitching and needle-point and shared a love for dogs. Peggy passed away October of 2015.
Dorothy was a proud member of Old Pueblo Dog Training Club located in Tucson and also volunteered at Top Dog, an organization that works with handicapped individuals, (most of them in wheelchairs) and their dogs. Dorothy was a wonderfully kind person and a highly skilled intellectual, but most importantly she was a very devout Christian who never failed to demonstrate her love for her Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus. She always looked forward to receiving the Sacrament of Holy Communion and was a former member of the Holy Cross Anglican Church located in Tucson, Arizona. There will not be a service per Dorothy's wishes.
