METZ, Forrest Logan
70, husband, father, grandfather, engineer, entrepreneur, rancher and friend died peacefully and unexpectedly on the morning of October 7, 2016 in Tucson, Arizona.
As a child of a prospector father and an entrepreneurial mother, Forrest made a positive mark in the community as a third generation Tucsonan. His tenacity, curiosity and steadfast commitment to friends and family shall be remembered.
He enjoyed the many freedoms of growing up in Tucson: exploring the Sonoran desert with his father; riding wild burros on endless journeys with friends; building useful objects; and eventually engaging the heart of his lifetime companion, Kim.
Forrest attended Pueblo and Catalina High Schools, and graduated from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Science degree. After a successful experience as a civil engineer and planner, he founded his own firm, Urban Engineering in 1974, which remains Southern Arizona's leading independent civil engineering, planning and surveying company.
As a restless entrepreneur he built other successful domestic and international ventures in various industries. As a pioneer in cellular telecommunications in the 1980's, he served as President of Celutel, Inc. and oversaw its listing on the American Stock Exchange.
Amongst his contributions to the community, Forrest served as a past board member of the Arizona School Facilities Board, Educational Enrichment Foundation, Arizona Mexico Commission, Boys and Girls Club of Tucson, United Way of Greater Tucson, Southwestern Fair Commission, and Pima County Fair Horse Racing Commission. He was also a member of the Tucson Airport Authority, University of Arizona Foundation President's Club; and served as the past President of the Mountain Oyster Club and Los Charros del Desierto.
Forrest's immediate family includes his wife, Kim; his two children, Forrest Metz Jr. (Annalise Moser) and Jenifer Metz (Andrew Flores), as well as grandsons, Wilkie and Quincy.
He is preceded in death by his father, Logan Metz; mother, Celia "Sally" Metz; brother, David Metz and is survived by his sister, Harriet; nephews, Michael (Matthew), Logan, Steven, nieces, Lori and Erin (Ryan), and numerous cousins and extended family.
Forrest shall be sorely missed and remains deeply loved by his family and friends.
